Meet Rebecca Williams

Educational Background: Ramapo College of New Jersey, B.A. with honors (Psychology major, Substance Abuse Counseling minor)

Occupation: Personal Trainer, Black Bear Fitness

What I Bring to the Table: Promoting a Secure Environment

My husband and I have been Sparta residents for 17 years. Like many, the extraordinary reputation of the school system was a major factor in our decision to reside here, as a newly married couple with plans of raising children.

We have two children who attend Sparta Public Schools, an 8th & 2nd grader. We also have a three-year-old dog who keeps us all on our toes. Walking our pup, doing yoga, and keeping up with two kids and their various activities is how I spend most days- while also working as a personal trainer for Black Bear Fitness since 2004. I graduated with honors from Ramapo College of New Jersey with a B.A. in Psychology in 2003. In 2019, I was inducted into the County College of Morris Inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame for Softball.

Having worked for a small business for 20 years, I am of the belief that a valued and supported “worker” works harder, for the benefit of all. My husband has worked as a police officer for 21 years. We know that a safe and supportive work environment and a positive culture for all should be at the forefront for every profession. This can only be accomplished with financial accountability and proper governance. Positive support and traditional values are what I plan to bring to our school district.

Our family truly values all of the teachers and staff in our district. We appreciate the relationships our family develops with our children’s teachers each year. I have volunteered as a Class Parent and also at various school activities over the past eight years. I have witnessed the hard work and dedication to Sparta students first-hand.

If given the opportunity to become a Sparta school board member, I will strive to advocate for every member of the school community. I will become as educated as I can to understand the best ways to help contribute to our district. As a board member, I will trust our teachers and staff. I will help our Sparta teachers and staff feel supported and valued by both the Board of Education and our Sparta community as a whole. Supported teachers and staff will stay inspired in their work and be proud to work in Sparta, where they will have a positive influence on students and our district’s academic excellence.
